Madison and Vine crossover with Hawaii Five-0
Microsoft Windows was smart enough to partner with a popular show in order to make itself well known. It was also smart of them to target themselves in a crime based show, especially one that involves cops because they use technology to help solve cases. What better way then to have its products like tablets and phones used in an environment, where technology is mostly needed. However every time the camera is pointed at a character, they just so happen to be holding in their hands, a Windows item. Even if the product does not have anything to do with what is going on in the moment of the show, the writers somehow find a way to incorporate it into the show. In the most recent episode, Junior and Tani were having a heart to heart conversation. Yet, during that meaningful moment, the camera focused on the Windows product being used rather than the expressions of the actors. They zoomed in on and emphasized the features that a Windows tablet can do in editing photos. Along these lines, whenever I see the Windows logo, my first thought is Hawaii Five-0 and I feel inclined to try the products used in the show.
Madison and Vine itself is sneaky, but clever at the same time. It is an approach to blend something we are fond of (television) with an item that we are being urged into buying. However, some individuals won't give into this technique being played on them in because the advertisers and writers balance out the two ideas so well. All in all, in using this signature technique, Hawaii Five-0 has become one big commercial for Microsoft Windows.
Do you think that Microsoft's integration into the show seems to much like a promotion though and not enough like it is just part of the show? In other words, do you believe that their role in the show has boosted their sales or benefited the company? In my opinion an ad that is too obvious in the show seems poorly executed and would backfire on the company. It also seems like the advertisement placement would take away from the show.
